The handicraft exhibition "Sitting Nicely" was shown in 2007 in Karlshamn, where this chair had a prominent place, a good choice.
In Sweden we call this type of chair Stegstol, the English name is better, “Ladderback chair”. In the mid-17th century the model came from India to England and became popular. It came to Sweden in the early 18th century. The small ears on the back plates show that the inspiration for this particular chair is English Rococo, which is called Chippendale, a style with great influences from China.
In the early 18th century, the Shaker sect emigrated from Manchester to the United States. The famous Shaker chairs that are manufactured today are said to be the ultimate refinement of this type of chair, which has thus traveled the world.
Traditionally, the chair is assembled without glue. The crossbars and back plates are made of dry wood, the legs are fresh. The chair shrinks when dried. Straw-woven seat.
